I have to admit it's difficult to find a way to start off this blog post.
I guess I'll quickly mention how last night was an amazing show. That despite it being freezing and a provincial holiday, Horseshoe was packed, but that's not why I'm out here.
Last night, was the last performance of Nate Mantle. Nate has been an active part of SFK for over 3 years. He's not only a lead guitarist, but a friend and part of our family.
Before we became Searching For Kim, I was a stupid college kid with more balls than common sense. After weeks of placing ads online for musicians, I was lucky to receive two responses. Nate Mantle and Paul Dimerin were both applicants, and both thoroughly impressed me with their amazing prowess and skill. Rather than having to pick one or the other, it was decided to pick both, turning us into a five-piece band.
It wasn't long before Nate started coming up with all these sick hooks that eventually became songs: Own Two Feet, Runaway, and Mrs. Demeanour wouldn't have been completed if not for his work.
Roughly about 2 months before the Horseshoe Gig, Nate let me know that he had something in the works that was going to prevent him from being a part of SFK.
After that, I started placing ads and getting ready for the show.
Over time the guys found out about Nate, and while we were a little saddened at the news, we kept our focus.
Nate is currently focusing on trying to save funds for Berklee College in Boston. I wish him well, although considering Berklee's history I dunno if it's better he graduates or drops out because of the long list of famous musicians that make up both categories.
Finally, where does this leave SFK?
We're looking into a suitable replacement who can hopefully help make our songs their own and help take us to the next step.
It'll be an interesting trip but I know we'll come out on top,
Matthew Di Leo
