While I admit this is a bizarre premise, it’s also something that I know you might find entertaining.
On December 15th 2013, Toronto was going through a horrible snowstorm. The roads were god-awful and it was, quite frankly, a horrible time to be outside.
It also happened to be the date of our show at Rancho Relaxo. At the time I was flat broke and was trying to save money the only way I could, by starving myself .
By 9PM that night, I needed food. Right before our call time, I went to the nearby sandwich shop and wolfed down a foot long trying to quell the demonic noises that were erupting from within.
After meeting with the promoter and other acts, it was time to do my pre-show rituals and at that point all hell broke loose.
What was supposed to be a relaxing mantra of vocal exercises and stretches, turned into the panicked frenzy of trying not to vomit on/backstage. Once the show went underway I had to redouble my efforts focusing more on trying to not get sick, rather than actually putting on a good performance.
I’ m not going to lie, that was the worst performance of my career. In fact, you’ll notice that in the pictures from that show I looked pissed off. I was totally pissed off, but it was at myself.
Why didn’t I actually take care of myself? Why did I eat so much before the show? Why am I asking you?
Here’s the thing though, it happens to everyone. In fact, type ‘Singer Throws Up On Stage’, take a look at those results.
As much as I despise the artists that show up on the results, it helps my point.
Cheers,
