Go Big or Go Home!

Hey Everybody,

This one is going to be a bit of a different format than my usual style of wiseass-ery.

My god... He's super cereal!

Truth is when you strip down the joking; at heart I’m a very serious person. After each live performance I go up to my friends and ask them what they thought of it. While it does help my ego to tell me you liked it, what I’m usually looking for is specifics.

What parts did you like? What do you think needs improvement? How did you like the set list order? Did I do anything strange that you wouldn’t recommend for next time?

"I would probably recommend you stop singing and sit in the corner... You scare me Matt."

It may seem like overkill but if you break it down, it’s all about improvement. I’ve been fighting to get SFK one-step closer from the garage to the concert halls. Somewhere down the line being a performer becomes a skill that needs effort. Guitarists practice scales, drummers try different time signatures, and bassists pick up every attractive persons phone number.

My inner head canon of what Adam Gömöri was like when he first tried playing bass.

Now I’m not knocking people who play in cover bands or just play it as a hobby.  Many of the people that I’ve met who do that are amazingly talented, but for some reason or another can’t or don’t get their own material off the ground. That isn’t implying that they don’t work hard though.

At some point or another we reevaluate ourselves, hoping that if we pull out all the stops it’ll lead to the next step. In order to do that, sometimes it requires an outside party. Bands are nothing without people behind the scenes pulling strings.

Surprisingly accurate... That being said, I feel old after posting this.

In closing it takes a lot of work to want to do something well, so if you want to go somewhere with it, start taking yourself seriously.

Cheers,
